Yes, and... about that Seattle offsite

Back from Seattle.

I was going to post about the impact a windy day can have in the rufty tufty Pacific Northwest (too much of that nature nearby, I guess). But that seems churlish, when I now know that London's main airport needs two hours to get you into Terminal 4, despite landing on a perfect sunny Sunday morning.

I was in Seattle as a guest of our Kirkland-based team's offsite. It was an easy gig. They have had a great year and its really easy to find the right words to praise people for their efforts and success.

The fun bit of the offsite was being trained in improv by Jet City Improv. Our own Brandon Baker is a cast member so I guess he had a hand in the idea.

Being put in the spotlight in improv wasn't as scary as I'd thought and it proved a great way to do a bit of team bonding, without that clunky feeling of having management technique pushed down your throat.

My takeaway. You always accept an offer of a line in improv with: "Yes, and...", not: "Yes, but..."

You recognize the other person's contribution, then you take it on and add something to the thread yourself. Its worth remembering.
