Invasion of the PR people

Something a bit strange about following the wise words of Forrester's marketing team blog over many months, and then finding someone from a PR agency - Chris Thilk of MWW - suddenly joining the conversation on the site.

All completely transparent and adequately trailed, all intelligent comments on the blog, but still a bit strange to see appearing under the Forrester brand.

Then again, maybe James would let me... nah, can't see it.

On a related point very, very smart of Forrester to hire Jeremiah. Makes a great team even stronger. Interesting to see if his style changes at all.

Hi Steve,
I'd love to know what exactly your issues are. The opportunity for me to attend the conference and blog on the Forrester site was presented to me largely because I was A) local in Chicago and B) known by some of the people putting the conference together so I'm here. They thought I could add some interesting commentary to their blog and I agreed.

Drop me a line if you'd like to discuss. I'm always more than happy to address concerns of transparency and such.

Then again if Chris comes up with cool ideas like this, maybe its not such a bad idea.

How about a Twitter board at your conference?

Hi Chris

It wasn't an issue of transparency - as I said in the post everything was well trailed and clear - it was more a question of my experience as a long term follower of their blog.

It's a Forrester branded blog afer all.

It may be wrong but I'm programmed to expect analyst groups to jealously protect the voice of their brand. Hence a bit of surprise at finding new voices joining in the conversation on their blog.

It's not personal to you. I'd have been equally surprised if they had asked, say, a vendor to contribute posts under their brand, no matter how well-informed or knowledgeable those views might be.

Still, if they need someone handy for any London events, I'm up for it.
