Nothing so dated as yesterday's tomorrow

I find retro newspapers quite amusing, and the good folks at Modern Mechanix blog seem to agree. This blog documents all the best articles from Mechanix Illustrated, the How-To-Do magazine from the early 20th century.

It's only a short time ago - less than a century - and it gives us glimpse into how differently people thought, and how mistaken we could  be. Even scientists can get it horribly wrong from time to time. What's that expression? Nothing looks so dated as yesterday's vision of the future. What will we think of Web 2.0 in 10 or 50 years time?

Still, wouldn't you love to drive around in one of these puppies? It comes with a robot driver!

Loved this one too. The bulletproof vest tester has to be the worst job in the world! If I had that job, I'd smoke cigars all day long too.
