News today that the EU has fined Microsoft $1.4bn here from the BBC.
Uncannily, the EU has chosen the same day that Microsoft launches three of its most important new products to make this announcement.
It would seem the EU is playing a classic marketing spoiler.
Which would be fair game in the private sector - but there is something a little tawdry when governments engage in these tactics. Somehow it undermines their authority.
In the UK the term - "a good day to bury bad news" - became synonymous with cynical government PR tactics after Jo Moore's actions on 9/11. I feel today's announcement requires a comparable label.
Anyone offer a suggestion?
