This is a bit of a me-centric post but then its not everyday you change the name of the company you founded 18 years ago (myself, Clare and Paul). So bear with it.
Officially Monday we change our name. For eighteen years we have been Write Image, on Monday morning we become Metia.
Its not something we've decided to do in a fit of new age logo envy, or because we are leaping aboard Bandwagon 2.0.
Basically, we just outgrew the label. We do lots more now than we ever could have contemplated back in 1987. When the cap no longer fits, get a new cap we say.
If you want to see what 'lots more' consists of, the new site goes live at www.metia.com around midday Monday. We are pretty happy with everything. We like it. Clients say they like it. Team say they like it. But the proof of the pudding will be in the business' performance in 12 months time.
I suspect we'll get industry flak for being perceived as riding the 2.0 thing (...the world's leading... gets the prize for quickest to the punch). And I suppose there is some degree of truth in their assertion. We do want our business to be recognized as looking toward the future (but its a moot point if the 2.0 tag alone is the future). But then again, our software team has been building web based marketing apps for enterprise size organizations for over five years. So our web credentials stack up better than most.
To see how heated people can get over a name change, take a look at the Reg here. Hence we avoided the new logo blessing ceremony and commissioning a company hymn. Before I am sentenced to logo hell - here's a rather prosaic list of reasons for our decision.
1. Because the 1980s are truly over
2. Because Geddit names are (mildly) funny for about sixty seconds, not 18 years
3. Because its tedious to know you are going to spell a name out four or five times to every receptionist you'll ever meet
4. Because today we sell different services, to different audiences and against different competition
5. Because it limits our potential
It'll be an interesting week ahead. I'm expecting to post some more.
